Katie St. John Glew
Background
BiographyI have always been extremely interested in the marine environment and conservation which lead me to my choice of degree in Marine Biology. In 2010 I volunteered at the Institute of Ocean Science in Canada where I took part in two fisheries research cruises, sparking my interest in fisheries management. My Master’s project focussed on using schlerochronology to determine growth rates of Atlantic salmon stocks in UK rivers, introducing me to spatial ecology. After graduating I interned at Murdoch University, Perth within the Cetacean Research Unit and at NIWA, New Zealand within their stable isotope department. During this experience I became extremely interested in this field of research and returned to the University of Southampton to start my postgraduate research in stable isotope ecology.
Research Interests
Research ProjectI will be working on carbon and nitrogen isoscapes within the North Sea and coastal UK regions, and looking at the assignment of various highly migratory species within this region. I will also be working on isoscapes based around New Zealand waters, and researching the capabilities and limitations of different isotope techniques with different types of species in these regions.
