Background
BiographyIn addition to my academic qualifications I have scientific field experiences in the Bahamas, Ecuador, Seychelles and Europe. Working almost exclusively with the spatial dynamics of sharks, I am confident in many aspects of shark handling, tagging, tracking, morphology and diving. Following my M.Res degree, I also worked for a wildlife film company, gaving me an invaluable insight into the media side of zoological research. I am an active scientific blogger and take great satisfaction from my outreach endeavours.
Research Interests
Research Project
My current research objectives are centred around the
spatial and trophic ecology of deep-sea chondrichthyans, primarily sharks and chimaera. I will be using
geochemical tracers and historic catch data to support evidence of long-term
latitudinal migrations in multiple deep-water sharks. I am also interested in the trophic role, composition, abundance and size structure of chondrichthyan assemblages within deep-water ecosystems and how this may vary between ocean regions. Using a range of tissue
samples, I will infer ontogenetic developments in both trophic and spatial life history ecology.
